6a Absorbalay

If you wish to improve the soundproofing of your floor but do not wish to access
the void under the floor then the use of Absorbalay mats might be your best
choice. Absorbalay mats come in two thicknesses. The first absorbalay 8 (8mm thick) designed primarily to reduce impact sound and absorbalay 15 ( 12mm thick) which is designed to reduce impact and airborne sound ( see photo below). The absorbalay 15 mat weighs 15kg /m3 acts to reduce airborne sound by increasing floor
mass and resilience. In addition, by sealing the gaps in the floorboards as well you are bringing
into play the wooden floor which acts as a reasonable soundproofing material
when all the gaps are sealed. The passage of sound, like water, can only really
be effectively blocked when the floor is sealed. If using carpets make sure any adhesive you use is suitable for polyurethane materials. If applying laminate or vinyl as your final walking surface an extra layer of 6mm ply is recommended.
 
6b Absorbalay Solution with Mineral wool

Acoustic mineral wool may be added to the above solution under the floorboards. The addition of the acoustic mineral wool will significantly add to the airborne sound attenuation by adding a sound absorption layer. Remember only 2 of 5 board needs lifting to gain access
